Nach ihrem ersten Tonträger „Live in Toledo“ und erfolgreich
absolvierten Tourneen in den Staaten sowie in Europa (mit Gästen wie
Nate Wooley, Jaimie Branch und Jeb Bishop), kündigt das Urge Trio mit
„Live at the Hungry Brain“ ihre nächste Veröffentlichung samt
anschließender Europatour an.
Wir freuen uns, dass wir Teil dieser Tour sind, denn am Mi. 15. Februar
gastiert dieses klasse Trio im Schl8hof in Wels.
Im Rahmen ihrer Konzerte verändert sich der Sound langsam in Farbtönen,
Tempi und Temperamt. Die aufgetürmten Klänge sind faszinierend und nicht
einfach zu bestimmen. Auch gibt es eine geheimnisvolle stimmliche
Qualität bei ihren Konzerten – sie kommunizieren recht direkt, und was
immer sie sagen wollen, man möchte gernemehr davon hören.
Saxophonist Keefe Jackson kam in den frühen 2000er Jahren nach Chicago.
Er ist vielgehörter Gast in Amerika und in Europa und taucht in
unterschiedlichen Zusammenhängen auf. So spielt er mit Dave Rempis,
Jason Adasiewicz, Mike Reed, Jason Stein, Michael Moore, Satoko Fujii
und Anthony Coleman. Die Kritik betont seinen außergewöhnlichen Ton,
manchmal wild, kantig, und dann wieder recht traditionell zu klingen.
Jackson wurde im legendären Magazin DownBeat als Rising Star auf dem
Tenorsaxophon gewürdigt. Er hat bei Delmark und auf Clean Feed Records
veröffentlicht.
Christoph Erb ist Schweizer und lebt in Luzern. Auch er spielt viel in
den Staaten, aber auch in Europa. Dabei sind Musiker wie Fred
Lonberg-Holm, Frank Rosaly, Jim Baker, Martin Schütz, Julian Sartorius
und Urs Leimgruber seine Partner. Er gründete ein eigenes Label,
vetorecords und nach einem viermonatigen Aufenthalt in Chicago das
Sublabel vetoexchange. Erb, der Tenor- und Sopransaxophon, sowie
Bassklarinette spielt, veröffentlichte auch auf den Labels Hatology und
Creative Sources.
Die Chicagoer Cellistin Tomeka Reid gilt als Rising Star in der Szene.
Sie wird als „bemerkenswert vielseitige und begabte Musikerin“
beschrieben. Und sie ist bereits Bestandteil von Gruppen mit großen
Namen, wie Nicole Mitchell’s Black Earth Ensemble, Mike Reed’s Loose
Assembly und in Dee Alexander’s Evolution Ensemble. Außerdem ist sie
Mitglied von AACM.
Sie spielt mit Anthony Braxton, Roscoe Mitchell, George Lewis, Myra
Melford, Edward Wilkerson, um hier nur einige zu nennen. Außerdem leitet
sie ihr eigenes Quartett mit Mary Halvorson, Jason Roebke und Thomas
Fujiwara.
Sie wurde von verschiedensten Seiten eingeladen, ihre kreativen Impulse
weiterzugeben. 2016 war sie mit Jenny Scheinman und Regina Carter für
den internationalen Preis der „Jazz Journalists Association“ nominiert.
