jakob gnigler ist ganz sicher einer der jazzaufsteiger der letzten jahre. seine
kreativität und sein enormes potential hat er nicht zuletzt in seinem eigenen sextett
„gnigler“ unter beweis gestellt. valentin duit lebt in wien, kommt ursprünglich aus der
schweiz und hat schon in jungen jahren ein erstaunliches solo-werk aufgelegt.
chris pitsiokos, auch noch keine 30 jahre alt, ist bereits ein fixer bestandteil der
jungen, wilden, hochprofessionellen, punkigen wie virtuosen new yorker jazzszene. mit
seiner cp unit feiert er weltweit erfolge, sein sound erinnert manchmal an john zorn.
lukas könig braucht man niemandem mehr vorzustellen. groß geworden mit könig leopold,
manchmal „aushelfend“ auch mit bilderbuch unterwegs. er gilt außerdem als einer der großen
jungen jazzvirtuosen österreichs, spielte bei
5k hd und noch immer bei kompost3 und mopcut.

MARY HALVORSON "CODE GIRL"

Mary Halvorson ist seit Jahren als vielseitig aufgestellte Gitarristin und Komponistin
zwischen experimenteller Rockmusik, Avantgarde Jazz und Noise in der New Yorker Downtown
Szene unterwegs. Sie hat mit Anthony Braxton, Bill Frisell, Jason Moran und Nels Cline
gearbeitet, ihre Klangästhetik ist harsch, kraftvoll und komplex. In ihrem jüngstem
Projekt »Code Girl« verdichten sich Halvorsons musikalische Interessen zu bemerkenswerten
Songgebilden.
Im Zentrum der Formation steht die Stimme von Amirtha Kidambi, einer Sängerin, die
zwischen klassischer indischer Musik, Drone und Jazz agiert. Weiters mit dabei ist die
furiose junge Saxophonistin Maria Grand, der Trompeter Adam O’Farrill,
Kontrabass-Urgestein Michael Formanek und Halvorsons Langezeitpartner Tomas Fujiwara am
Schlagzeug.
Mary Halvorson, den WelserInnen bekannt durch das kuratieren des unlimited-Festivals 2017,
hat ein großes Los gezogen: Sie wurde 2019 mit dem hochdotierten MacArthur Genius Grant
ausgezeichnet, einem „Preis“, der nur den allerbesten kreativen us-amerikanischen Köpfen
im Jazz zuerkannt wurde (von Cecil Taylor über George Lewis, Ken Vandermark zu John Zorn).
Wir gratulieren herzlich und präsentieren Mary aktuelles Sextet, das einige herausragende
Musiker Amerikas auf die Bühen stellt!
