TREVOR WATTS & VERYAN WESTON
Zwei Musiker, die aus der europäischen Jazzszene nicht wegzudenken sind,
machen hier gemeinsame Duo-Sache: Der Saxofonist Trevor Watts,
mittlerweile 76jährig, spielte in seiner Anfangszeit mit Leuten wie Rod
Stewart und Sonny Boy Williamson. Später wendet er sich hin zur
kreativen Londoner Jazzszene (John Stevens, Keith Tippett, Stan Tracey)
und seinen meist großformatigen „Moiré Music“ Ensembles. Es folgten
Auftritte mit Archie Shepp, Steve Lacy, Louis Moholo und Don Cherry.
Den Pianisten Veryan Weston kennt man durch sein Mitwirken in einigen
Ensembles von Luc Ex, z.b. bei 4Walls (mit Michael Vatcher, Phil
Minton), Sol 6 oder Sol 12 . Er arbeitete außerdem mit Eddie Prevost,
Lol Coxhill, Ingrid Laubrock, Hannah Marshall, Jon Rose, sowie in Phil
Mintons Quartett und ist oft zu Gast im „London Improvisers Orchestra“.
Erst kürzlich spielte Veryan Weston bei drei Revival-Konzerten der
britischen Art-Rocker „Henry Cow“ (mit Fred Frith, Dagmar Krause, Sally
Potter u.a.m.), die als Tribute für die verstorbene Musikerin Lindsay
Cooper in England und Italien zelebriert wurden.

GINA SCHWARZ UNIT feat. JIM BLACK
KRIS DAVIS TRIO feat. john hébert & tom rainey
An diesem, ganz dem aktuellen Jazzgeschehen gewidmeten Abend werden mit
der Kontrabassistin Gina Schwarz und der Pianistin Kris Davis zwei
Bandleaderinnen - eine Österreicherin und eine Kanadierin - in den
Mittelpunkt des musikalischen Geschehens gesetzt:
Nicht nur wegen des recht bekannten Schlagzeugers Jim Black aus New York
sollte man die „Gina Schwarz Unit“ etwas genauer in Augenschein nehmen,
denn jede(r) Einzelne dieser Band ist ein kleines Universum für sich.
Der vielfältige Erfahrungsschatz aller Beteiligten dürfte ein
hochgradiges Donnerwetter an musikalischen Ereignissen am Horizont der
geneigten Hörerin ertönen lassen, dessen Faszination man sich – einmal
gefangen – kaum mehr entziehen kann.
Gina Schwarz studierte u.a. am Berklee College of Music in Boston und
holte sich bei Größen wie Buster Williams und Cecil McBee in New York
zusätzlichen Input.
Jim Black Black wuchs in Seattle/Washington auf. 1985 ging er nach
Boston (Berklee College of Music) zu besuchen und lebt seit 1991
Brooklyn/New York. Musiziert/e u.a. mit Carla Bley, Ellery Eskelin,
Charly Haden, Chris Speed , Nels Cline und Tim Berne.
„Die begnadete, freidenkerische Pianistin Kris Davis belebt jede Note,
die sie spielt“, schrieb das Art Forum über Kris Davis. Die Kanadierin
gilt heute als eine der vitalsten Kräfte der New Yorker Jazzszene. Ihr
Soloalbum »Aeriol Piano« wurde 2011 von der New York Times, von
JazzTimes und vom Art Forum unter die besten Jazzpiano-Aufnahmen des
Jahres gereiht. 2014 erschien die CD »Waiting For You To Grow« mit
Eigenkompositionen für ihr aktuelles, hochkarätig besetztes Trio mit
John Hébert und Tom Rainey.
